Joshua Kutticherry

Assistant Director of Research

What is your role?

At futurethink, I’m responsible for driving content development and overseeing updates to our catalog of research and tools. I work with our team of researchers, writers, and trainers to ensure that our catalog is up to date and relevant and that every presentation and workshop we give will provide a fresh perspective on innovation to attendees. I regularly attend talks and events that build futurethink’s knowledge base, and interview experts in the innovation field to learn more about how innovation happens within different organizations on a day to day basis. I also work closely with our members to help them effectively leverage the 250+ items in our catalog.

What’s your story? What brought you to futurethink?

I started my career with futurethink as an intern, and have been fortunate to work here ever since. When I first began working at futurethink, we were in the midst of developing our catalog of innovation tools and launching our first Website. I have since worked with our clients and members to learn their needs and develop new content, and have been closely involved in the evolution of futurethink’s Web experience.

What are your areas of expertise?

Innovation-in terms of how organizations actually build and sustain innovation programs, Web 2.0 and its influence on how we think and work, the future, change management.

What industries have you worked in?

During my years with futurethink, I’ve worked with companies in a wide variety of sectors: Financial services, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Retail, Technology, Automotive, Consumer Products, and Government.

What companies have you worked with in the past?

American Express, LG Electronics, Delphi, the Institute for International Research, Citigroup, MasterCard, Morgan Stanley, Westin, Ingenix, Colgate-Palmolive, Sepracor, Unilever, and IDEO.

Where did you earn your degree?

New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

In my free time, I enjoy…

Reading, traveling, meandering through New York City, trying new restaurants, and meeting new people.

What excites your about innovation?

Innovation is inextricably linked to progress, and progress is always a good thing in my mind. Innovative ideas have the ability to transform the way we think, learn, act, and live; and that’s exciting. People involved in innovation have a tendency to be passionate and forward-thinking, which means they’re really fun to talk to, work with, and learn from.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without (excluding the "practical" food / water / shelter / organs)?

I’m tempted to go with my iPhone on this one, but that’s already been taken… so I’ll say the Internet. Yes, I’m a "Net native," having enjoyed Internet connectivity during most of my life; and I genuinely cannot fathom how people survived without it. I’m constantly amazed by how even the most seemingly trivial or obscure bits of information are made accessible with just a few keystrokes.

What’s the last book you read?

I just finished reading Malcolm Gladwell’s latest book, Outliers, which I very much enjoyed. Next on my pile of to-be-reads is The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. After that: Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace… One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson. I try to alternate between fiction and nonfiction.
