Pamela Skillings
Lead Writer
What is your role?
Putting the brilliance of the futurethink team into words.
What’s your story? What brought you to futurethink?
I spent twelve years as a marketing executive for Fortune 500 firms. During that time, I had the lucky opportunity to meet Lisa and engage futurethink to provide innovation guidance for my company. When I left the corporate world to launch my own consulting practice in early 2005, I jumped at the chance to partner with futurethink to help organizations achieve business breakthroughs through practical innovation.
What are your areas of expertise?
Communications, career development and human resources, training and facilitation, entrepreneurship, marketing and public relations.
What industries have you worked in?
My experience is in financial services, media and publishing, and technology.
What companies have you worked with in the past?
American Express, American Management Association, Citigroup, Ernst & Young, Gartner, MasterCard, Morgan Stanley, The New York Times Company, New York University, U.S. Small Business Administration, and Westin.
Where did you earn your degree?
New York University
In my free time, I enjoy…
Reading, writing, drinking red wine, meeting cool people, traveling the world with my always-adventurous husband, and walking the streets of New York City.
What excites your about innovation?
A great idea has the power to transform your business and even change the world. If you learn the tools and techniques of practical innovation, the possibilities are endless. And I believe that everybody has the potential to be an innovator.
What’s the one thing you can’t live without (excluding the "practical" food / water / shelter / organs)?
A steady diet of new ideas, new perspectives, and new challenges.
What’s the last book you read?
I love to read and have very diverse tastes. Lately, I’m obsessed with New York City history and just finished "The Red Leather Diary" by Lily Koppel. It’s about a journalist who discovers the diary of a young girl who lived in New York during the 1920s and ’30s. It’s fun to read about fabulous nights at El Morocco and the Hotel Pierre. I can find inspiration in stories about the past, present, and fantasized future.
